However, added to the table is a handy copy of the special J.O. Vault Start Value Bonus table so you can have less separate papers on your desk while judging. You don't need to download this if you are downloading the notes above.
As new updates arrive, the Course notes will be updated again.

NCAA/NGJA Interpretations 2006-2007, v.4.00 01-Feb-2007
Version 4.0 includes the clarifications posted here on how to implement the changes on PH and on HB that are a part of the December 2006 Code. The NGJA Interpretations for the NCAA Program have been updated to correspond with the NCAA Modfications below and the current FIG Code. Additionally Clarifies only that the Ono is now in the Code and therefore dropped from the Interpretations.

A New Code ...

The December 2006 Code is now available

Attached is a document showing the differences from the May 2006 Code to the December 2006 Code.

The Differences Found in the December 2006 FIG Code 2007-01-28

FIG Code of Points (December 2006 version) is now posted.
- It is highly recommended that all coaches & judges print off the new code so everyone is current and not using one of the previous codes (October 05’, March 06’, May 06’, and now December 06’). There have been a lot of changes over the last few years (especially vault values) and it is extremely important that everyone is using the most current code.

A direct link to the December 2006 Code

For NCAA Competitions, as per NCAA Rules, changes that occur after November 15th are not valid until next year in the NCAA Program. Please remember that some changes you might find incorporated into this version of the Code, are changes that actually were made before November 15, and may have appeared in an early newsletter but are now being rolled into a complete, cohesive, and up to date Code. Next week's summary will identify those items that are new to this Code but are actually changes made early enough in the year that they are valid also in the NCAA program.

New video to help understand the new guidelines

Implementation of changes on HB based on FIG-MTC Newsletter 21

hb videosThis link goes to a page that
has a series of videos to show the implementation
of the new guidelines on determining difficulty
for Russian Giants as described below.

These videos are examples based on the email our officers received from Adrian Stoica, President of the FIG-MTC. These and the written interpretations below are valid for both USAG and NCAA Competitions in the United States immediately.

This is the addenda added to the NGJA/NCAA Interpretations, v.3.00

After next week - these will be found in the NGAJ/NCAA Interpretations but not directly on the home page.

1.) PH: Clarification regarding the rule which allows only 2 Russian skills in a PH routine.

Athletes are limited to 2 Russians wendeswings per routine. If an athlete does a 3rd Russian wendeswing in his routine, eliminate the "lowest" valued Russian skill (do not eliminate the 3rd Russian in chronological order).

For example:

Russian 1080  = (D value)

Russian 360 on 1 pommel = (C value)

Russian 1080 dismount  =  (D value)

In this case, the Russian 360 on 1 pommel should be eliminated since it has the "lowest" value of the Russian Wendeswings. Furthermore, always select the dismount since you are required to pick the highest valued skill from each element group.

NOTE:

a.) Since athletes are limited to only 2 Russian skills on PH, the Wu, Tong Fei, Roth, Kroll, or flops connected to a Russian skill on 1 pommel do not count toward the 2 Russian skill limit (these are exceptions).

b.) If a gymnast attempts a Wu and falls after completing 1/2 of the skill (1/2 travel with a 360 degree turn), he would receive B credit for the skill (same box as a Russian 360 on the leather) and this would count as 1 of the Russian Wendeswing skills allowed. But, according to the NCAA Rules, this skill could be eliminated if there are 2 other Russian skills of greater value.

2.) HB: Clarification on el-grip giant swings and when to give credit for an invert.

Example #1:

  • B value jam, swing through the bottom, swing up to handstand = B value for the entire sequence
  • hop to undergrip = B value for the grip change (note: all he did was a simple grip change...nothing else)

Combination value = B+B

Example #2:

  •  B value jam, swing through the bottom, swing up to handstand in an inverted (Russian giant) position = B value for the entire sequence
  • Swing down in el-grip, swing up to handstand = B value for the el-grip giant
  • hop to undergrip = B value for the grip change (again, this was just a simple grip change)

Combination value = B+B+B      Note: It appears that the gymnast did an invert giant, however, this is considered part of the previous element.

Example #3:

  • B value jam, swing through the bottom, swing up to handstand in an inverted (Russian giant) postion = B value for the entire sequence
  • Swing down, swing up to handstand in an inverted (Russian giant) position = C value for the invert
  • Swing down, swing up to handstand = B value for the el-grip giant
  • hop to undergrip = B value for the grip change

Combination value = B+C+B+B

Example #4:

  • C value jam within 15 degrees of the handstand, swing through the bottom, swing up to handstand in an inverted (Russian giant) position = C value for the jam
  • Swing through the bottom, swing up to handstand = B value for an el-grip giant
  • hop to undergrip = B value for the grip change

Combination value = C+B+B

NOTE: In example 2 & 4, it appears that the gymnast did an invert giant after the jam , but this is part of the previous skill.

NCAA Modifications 2006-06-14

The NCAA program has revised their modifications for the upcoming 2006-2007 season in this document.

Before judging a college meet, it is extremely important to review the NCAA Rules & Modifications document because it has a different system for picking the top 10 skills, has preserved the 10.0 and uses a different scale on Vault. For all NCAA competitions, this document needs to be applied.
